Living with Insect Smasher

insectSmasherSome people dislike the messy biological world of insects preferring instead the sanitized virtual world. People who dislike insects often dislike smashing them. Failure to smash a wasp can result in a wasp sting. Smashing some insects makes a gooey mess. Many people who smash a cockroach will use a tissue to pick up and discard the carcass to avoid the goo. For those people, and maybe people who just enjoy cell phone games there is Insect Smasher.

The rules are simple. Smash the insects before they get your pizza. Cartoonish insects scurry across the screen. Hit the image with your finger and the fly is replaced by a pale green splatter. Biologist EO Wilson once remarked, “I think games are the future in education.” I don’t think insect smasher is exactly what he had in mind.
