Mosquito Monitoring Methods II

CDC Light Trap

CDC Light Trap

Mosquitoes are attracted to UV Light (black light), the attractive principle of the bug zapper. Unlike the bug zapper, this trap uses a battery operated fan to get small insects such as mosquitoes into the collection bag. In addition to mosquitoes, this type of trap is useful for monitoring sand flies, vectors of Leishmaniasis. Unlike the gravid trap, it does not differentially collect gravid females over males or unmated females.
