No News Is Good News

Mosquito Bite

Allergic Reaction To Mosquito Bite Photo:

Below freezing temperatures this morning (11/12/16) should be the end of our mosquito season. The Zika epidemic in the Caribbean had minimal impact on Indiana with no reported evidence of Zika infected mosquitos or transmission occurring in Indiana. However, there were over 20 cases of travelers returning to Indiana with Zika infections acquired elsewhere.

West Nile Virus was also quiet in Indiana with 10 cases of human infections reported. Five cases were from Lake County, IN and only one locally in Tippecanoe County. A combination of weather conditions unfavorable to West Nile transmission and the continued vigilance of our mosquito control districts keep numbers low. With mosquito vectored diseases, no news is good news.
